Week 13, January 26, 2015 Visited Monaco

I went to Monaco!!!!! Yeah!!! It is so beautiful there!! This week was amazing! We went on exchanges in Nice and I got to go to Monaco! And we saw so many miracles! We found a woman with a family that is interested in learning about the gospel! We haven’t met with them yet, but I feel really good about this! Our other investigator left us disappointed though... She didn’t show up to our Meeting and she didn’t even show up to church... She stopped answering our calls and she has kind of fallen off the face of the earth. This last Sunday, we fasted for her that when we taught her that day, she would feel the spirit and want to be baptized. Then she didn’t even show... I felt deeply sad for her... But all is well! It is not her time yet. The work will continue.

gtg!! (got to go)               Love, Elder Nick Martin :)

Week 12 January 19, 2015 Missing Family and Home

You guys have been spending a lot of time over there in Puyallup! I miss it over there! Honestly, I think Puyallup is prettier than the countryside where I am at now. The sea is beautiful, and the mountains, but I am so far away from any trees and stuff and what I have seen really hasn’t been all that spectacular... I miss trees and the green. Everything is still in bloom here, but everything is brown.... it makes me a little sad actually. I miss the green forests of Priest Lake and Puyallup! That is where my heart is! I have trouble staying awake when I am indoors, too. Oh my when I am outside and moving do I feel fully awake. I think my job will have to have a lot of movement or else I will be falling asleep quite often.

I miss the forests and the memories and the reading. Every time I read out loud at the mtc, all the sisters told me how much they loved my voice haha I miss reading out loud in English and I miss being able to speak English. It was so much easier and I understood everything and I could actually speak what I felt in my heart. Now I have to spill it in broken French...

Honestly... I am having a really hard time right now... I am very discouraged... I miss you and dad and the family and home and Julia... I feel so alone over here. My comp is really a good guy, and I feel like a brother; he is a brother; but I long to come back home where everything was nice and easy and fun and full of love and good memories... I am not going to quit.. I will figure it out...

Yay!! Go SEAHAWKS!! :) go prayer circles!!! :)
So the weirdest thing happened this week... my jaw locked in place for about an entire minute... I couldn’t close it, finally I tried to talk and it loosened up.. But that was very scary... I try not to yawn now haha

We had a baptism this week! Well not our investigator, but the sisters in our district. He is a really cool man. He will make a great contribution to the ward! I don’t know why I didn’t get a picture with him... really stupid!! But I will get it next Sunday or this Saturday when the sisters baptize another one of their investigators!! So cool! :)

Well I will talk to you later! I have some stuff to do... We didn’t go to Grasse today to the perfumery, but we probs will next week. So I will be carrying around perfume for a while haha oh well!

Talk to you next week!! Love you!!

Love

Week 11 January 13, 2015 Terrorists Attack Paris

So I had a very interesting week... The terrorist attack in Paris has caught France by surprise and people are appalled... It is very sad... It has made people very weary to talk to us also... If we start talking about religion, they start talking politics and about how the world is a horrible place and it's this government's fault and that ambassador’s fault and we try to teach them of the goodness of God and it is very hard for anyone to see that after the attack... Even the Ward in Cannes added more security during church... Please pray for us. Pray for the missionaries. Please pray for the people of France. Please pray for those affected by this attack... It is so sad and the only way we can get through this is uniting together and coming unto Christ. He is our shepherd and will protect us from the wolf. He has, in fact, laid down his life to protect us from the wolf. Nobody else has the power to redeem our souls and save our lives except Jesus Christ.

The rest of the week has been rather quiet. Not many people out, school has started up again so the kids aren't out shopping and the streets are almost deserted. I guess when Christ said "seek and ye shall find" there was an unsaid understanding that sometimes you have to seek a little harder than just stepping out the door. Life takes action and I am excited to move! I have never walked so much in my life! Haha but nothing worth having was ever easy.

I am excited that President Roney supports my relationship with Julia! He said that he was impressed! Haha that made me smile ;)

The Zone Conference was really good this week, too! We were taught about self-examination and looking inward to better ourselves and become more like Christ, more perfected in Christ. There is something that I really love about the Atonement that many people over look. It is explained well in the talk entitled "The Meaning of the Atonement" by a general authority. It talks about why the Atonement had to happen and it talks a lot about the enabling power of the Atonement. So, when we look inwards and try to become more like Christ, we can get on our knees and plead unto Christ, repent, change, and Christ can provide us with the power to become stronger than we are. We can have power beyond our own. That is what I love about the Atonement. If you have not, I challenge you to read the Book of St Luke and St John. That will show you how much Christ really loves us.

This is what my scriptures look like when I go through them. I have never studied them like this before. I thought a good time would be now. Haha Thanks for the coloring book ;)
Yeah I am staying warm. It is very warm where I am compared to the rest of France!

Tell Patsy I say hi :)

Yes! Antoine is the brother of the boy you saw on Skype! He is really cool! Into the same games, he makes music and is actually really popular in France and has people from Hollywood calling him to make music for their artists! Big name artists!

I will try to take as many pics as I can! And videos! You will enjoy going through them with me! I will tell you the stories behind every picture. I try to meet new people, but I am still very quiet because I am out of my comfort zone. I know that in order to get better, I need to break out of my comfort zone, and I will do that!

Well that’s all that I have to say for now :) I will talk to you next week! I think I am going to Grasse to a perfumery store! A world renowned one apparently, so I will see what is there to get you :) oh and our new mission president is a Scott Brown from Salt Lake City. He is a lawyer. See what you can find out about him! (haha I liked that part, I get to be a private investigator)

Love you so much!!
Elder Nick Benjamin Martin :)

So this is a view from the chapel in Antibes :)

Here is a panoramic. It does very little justice of how beautiful this actually is. There is a man in our ward that has been all around Europe and says this is the most beautiful view from any chapel in Europe.

A cool statue of dolphins!

Week 10, January 5, 2015 Bringing in the New Year

Happy New Year!!
This is me trying to look French with my new Khakis.

2015 MacMar New Year's Day
at the Museum of Flight, Boing Field Seattle, WA

His response to our visit to the museum. Holy cow!!That is so cool!!! I wish I could have been there for that!! I was really sad and didn't do anything and was missing you all a lot... I actually went to bed really early.... I hated being away from everyone over the holidays :(   But I really do feel your love and I am so thankful for that. I couldn't go on without your prayers and your love. I feel stronger knowing that you are praying for me :) thank you!!

So this week was rather fast! We went to the ward on NYE and they fed us a nice dinner :) The Ward really takes us missionaries in as children and see and give to all of our needs and more! They gave us a food care package and we haven’t had to buy much at the grocery store which was good because we didn’t have any money!! But now we do thank goodness. And we can get some better food in us haha :)

And then on Saturday night we went to our DMP's house (ward mission leader) and he lives in the mountains outside of Grasse. So we drove to Grasse and that was really pretty, but then we went up the mountain and at night, we looked down on the valley and it was sooooo gorgeous!!! And then the sunrise on Sunday over the Mediterranean sea was sooooooo beautiful!!! This is the most beautiful place in the world. Period!!!

The weather here is soooo cold though... I have to wear a long sleeve shirt now :/ life's rough! haha :)
This is my Ward Mission Leader, Brother Roland Perez. The strongest member in our ward. His son, Antoine (not the one you met on Skype) has really became a brother to me!!

This is for Jake! This is one of the walls of the Shoe store in Cannes. This store is one of a kind and gets shoes from around the world! My companion bought a 400 euro pair of shoes!!!

This is Nice. It is a beautiful city :)

Sorry I have to add this in because it shows what a tender heart he has.

Mom

I love you! Life is really hard without you... You really did a lot... Sometimes it hits me and I can't help but cry because I miss you and I miss home. Maybe I should have done a year of college before, but oh well now haha yeah Fast Sunday almost killed me haha but I lived :) and I feel a lot stronger now :) I always have a bottle with me!! ( I wanted to make sure he was drinking enough water)

I bought a bag today, and it was expensive, but it's really nice. I want you to use my money to pay you back because I don't want you to pay for it! That'd be great! Thank you!

Love you so much :)   Nick
